Barb Ramos

Barb Ramos is an educator with a distinguished career in academia and educational leadership. With a passion for shaping future educators, she has dedicated her life to fostering academic excellence, guiding students, and contributing to the field of education through teaching, mentorship, and research.

Barb is an experienced elementary teacher and school counselor. She further expanded her expertise by obtaining an Education Specialist degree from Drake University and culminated her academic journey with a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University.

Barb's career in higher education at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa has been marked by her dedication to training and mentoring aspiring educators. Throughout her tenure, she has taught a variety of teacher education courses. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes student engagement, critical thinking, and real-world application, ensuring her students are well-prepared for the challenges of modern education. She was honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2023. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has held several key leadership positions and was recognized with the Campus Leadership Award in 2013.

Barb's contributions to education extend into research, writing, and presentations. Her areas of expertise include educational leadership, teacher preparation, teacher leadership, year-round schools, and student engagement. She is deeply committed to advocating for policies that support educators and enhance student learning experiences. In addition, she is actively involved in preventing child abuse at the county and state levels.

When she is not teaching or writing, Barb enjoys time with family, reading high-quality mysteries, listening to music, and exploring genealogy.
